Call for Tutorials: ESSCA 2018 European Symposium on Serverless Computing and Applications (ESSCA 2018) Zurich University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland, December 21, 2018 Follow-up event to: 11th IEEE/ACM International Conference on Utility and Cloud Computing (UCC 2018) & 5th IEEE/ACM International Conference on Big Data Computing, Applications and Technologies (BDCAT 2018) ESSCA brings together scientific progress with industrial requirements for future serverless development practices and application architectures. A full-day event for learning and demonstrating the latest in tech and research on cloud functions! For the Education Track of the event, we are looking for instructive tutorials of various lengths. The tutorials can combine brief conceptual explanations, hands-on parts, learning-by-doing and learning-from-experience stories. Both short (45-60 minutes) and long (120-180 minutes) tutorials are welcome. We particularly welcome tutorials on the following topics: * Function-as-a-Service (FaaS) concepts and programming paradigms * FaaS execution and orchestration environments * Stateful service bindings and data management in lambdas * Concepts for serverless microservice design and implementation * Mixed-technology integration (gateways, containers etc.) * User-facing applications built with serverless architectures * Experimental and analytical serverless service comparisons * Patterns for building and composing cloud functions * Open source tools for development/deployment/execution of functions * Economic considerations of pay-per-invocation pricing * Wider ecosystem including cloud function languages and marketplaces -- Submission process: Submission is by e-mail with a brief description of the intended tutorial, target audience and prerequisites to the Education Track chair. E-mail: Fabio López Pires Submission deadline: September 15, 2018 (AOE) Acceptance notification: September 30, 2018 Registration: November 1, 2018 Symposium: December 21, 2018 Post-symposium camera-ready version: December 31, 2018 A camera-ready tutorial description of up to 3 pages is encouraged for all tutorials. Proceedings of ESSCA will be submitted to CEUR-WS.org for online publication and rapid dissemination after the symposium. The proceedings will contain all camera-ready papers, as well as abstracts on industry talks, tutorials, discussion rounds and other relevant material.
